October 26, 2013 - Essex Skypark Pumpkin Drop

The order of business at the Skypark today was a pumpkin-dropping contest.   The annual Wings and Wheels fly-in requires so much work on behalf of the Essex Skyparkians, that no one really gets to enjoy it.  That's for attendees and local residents.  But the pumpkin-dropping contest is for us.  No one had to do any work, everyone brought some food, and it was a fun event.   There were seven planes that participated.  Mine was one of them -- I had hooked up the Rubber Chicken Launching Device and had a little fake pumpkin in it.  Didn't work, but I tried.

Max was the first to drop, in his Champ.

One plane flew at a time while the rest of us watched.

My hangar neighbor Tom K. drops from low altitude in his Maule.   His pumpkin is visible directly below the Maule, about to impact the ground.   Nowhere close to the orange cone target!

Claudius cruises by at ultra low speed in the Sky Cam.

Rob makes a run in his SeaRey.

The big crowd watching the dropping passes.  Actually there were quite a few people, but they were all over by the food, for some reason ....

I made my two passes -- the last one a high-speed pass -- then cruised over to Miller's Island to check out the foliage.

It's definately Fall.

You can tell from the water that there definately was some wind.

A nice Fall shot of Miller's Island.

Landings were pretty squirrely back at the Skypark.  Everyone was working hard to get their airplane on the ground without bending something.
